limited supply - proceeds go to Makaha community center

Ke Ahi kamo - hae hawaiʻi edition

Proceeds for the sale of both Ke Ahi Kamo hat editions in May 2026 will go to the Makaha Community Center to help those in the community in greatest need, especially those whose difficult living situations were exacerbated by the recent string of storms in Hawaiʻi. In March 2026 Hawaiʻi experienced back-to-back Kona Lows that brought historic, widespread and catastrophic damage across the island chain. Communities across Hawaiʻi saw homes destroyed, crops decimated, and beloved pets lost forever. Although weather can be unpredictable, our communities will show up for one another time and time again. These community bonds make us strong, keep us resilient, and help us to pūpūkahi I holomua” strive forward together

KE AHI KAMO - ʻaʻole EDITION

In 1970 Frances “Patches” Damon Holt and her sister Harriet “Haku” Damon Baldwin founded The Moanalua Gardens Foundation (MGF) to prevent the building of the H3 freeway in Kamananui (Moanalua) Valley, the last undeveloped valley in urban Honolulu. Today, MGF Hawaiʻi continues our kūlana as guardians of this sacred wahi pana. From military land leases and sacred wahi pana, to landfills in Kanaka Communities – our collective kūlana is clear! The Ke Ahi Kamo Kollection features wearable expressions of kuleana. Kuleana for our kūpuna, our ʻāina, and our lāhui.
Crafted from durable, lightweight 100% polyester. The flat brim offers a modern profile, while the adjustable snapback ensures a comfortable fit for all who wear it.

for college haumāna and their high school ʻohana

The Mālama Kamananui Summer Internship is a collaborative effort between Moanalua Gardens Foundation, Mauliola Keʻehi, and strategic community partners designed to connect youth and young adults to culture, place and community through hands on learning and work.

Over the course of 8 weeks (June through July) interns will explore ʻike kūpuna (ancestral knowledge), mauli ola (health and wellbeing), moʻolelo (stories of place), environmental stewardship, and STEM through real-world experiences in Keʻehi and Moanalua. Participants will engage in cultural practices, mālama ʻāina (care for the land), and environmental activities that build both personal growth and practical skills.

This program is grounded in the belief that learning comes from doing, from relationships, and from a deep connection to ʻāina. Interns will learn and work alongside cultural practitioners, educators, and community members while developing a final project that reflects what they’ve learned.

This internship is for college student interns PLUS a younger family member or friend (7th - 12th Grade) who will participate in parts of the internship with you. They will get a stipend as well.

No prior experience is required—just a willingness to learn, show up, and be part of a cohort committed to caring for ʻāina and community. APPLY HERE  TODAY!

    Our Programs

    Our mission is...

To preserve and perpetuate the history, native culture and environment of Hawai’i through education and stewardship of Kamananui Valley and the celebration of the annual Prince Lot Hula Festival.

    Who We Are

    our history

In 1970 Frances “Patches” Damon Holt and her sister Harriet “Haku” Damon Baldwin, founded Moanalua Gardens Foundation (MGF) to prevent Kamananui (Moanalua) Valley, the last undeveloped valley in urban Honolulu, from being overtaken by a major freeway. The great granddaughters of Samuel Mills Damon who inherited the entire ahupuaʻa of Moanalua (land to sea district) from Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, Patches and Haku fought to maintain this precious wahi pana (storied place) whose history dates back to the 1100s. Part of the Moanalua ahupuaʻa that sustained life and the cultural practices of hula and chanting in ancient times, Kamananui Valley was the intended pathway for the construction of the H-3 freeway until MGF stepped in to stop construction and effectively preserved 3,700 acres of this historic site for future generations.

Since then, MGF, a nonprofit organization, has continued the sisters’ legacy of conservation in its work and mission to preserve and perpetuate the precious cultural and natural resources of our islands through education and stewardship of Kamananui Valley and celebration of the annual Prince Lot Hula Festival. A pioneer in environmental education, MGF developed, in the late 1970s, the first culture-based environmental education K-12 curriculum in Hawaii which was used extensively in public and private schools throughout Oʻahu with a groundbreaking distance learning program for neighbor island schools.

In 1978, MGF launched the Prince Lot Hula Festival to continue the legacy of hula and chanting begun in the 1600s by King Kākuhihewa in Kamananui and perpetuated by Prince Lot Kapuāiwa when he hosted paʻina (gatherings) at his summer home in Moanalua. Over its more than half a century of service to the community, Moanalua Gardens Foundation has become one of the most respected environmental and cultural preservation organizations in Hawaiʻi winning awards for excellence in both areas.
